Project "Venom"

Well here you go guys… It all started with borrowing a buddies van as I was having issues with my truck at the time… He bought it from a youth care facility that we both worked at, we had done some long winter road trips in it, even going sideways with a loaded trailer down the Yellowhead Highway near the Alberta / Saskatchewan border… Anyways, when I was done with the van I took it back to my buddy, and he said “I don’t want it back…”… I said “What do you mean you don’t want it back…?”, he said again “I DON”T WANT IT BACK…!”… I asked him “Do you mind if I cut it up…?” He signed the title to me and told me to do what I want with it…

Project "Venom" was born… Since the 70’s I had always wanted to build a Radical Custom Van, back then I did not have the tools or the skills to pull it off… The timing was right…

Why “Venom”, well this was a Dodge, it’s related to a Viper, & with the “torque monster” of a 440 that was slated for it, it was going to be one nasty ride… I thought “Venom” was fitting…

Below are a few photos that I printed, all the others were on my PC that crashed and burned years ago… It was quite a loss as I had made every attempt to well document this build… The lost photos covered the 4” section, the 8” chop, the windshield dropped & laid back into the body, the roof split & widened, the cowl & hood welded together, etc., etc., etc…

The sad thing was seeing how long ago this was started… YIKES…

Here is the sketch that started it all...

It's kinda kOoL when you can go into a project like this with an "I don't give a sh*t if I f**k this van up" attitude... Every cut I made, every step I took, it all just kept working out...

And now we jump to September 8, 2008 and all the pictures that were taken to get Project "Venom" to this point were lost...

As you’ll note from this pic, it does not look like a “shorty van”… With dropping the roof a total of 12” (8” chop & 4” section), it in turn made the van look longer… So at some point I’ll be shortening the van to keep things in proportion…

This next pic shows the cowl & hood welded together… You can also see where the 4” section was done as indicated by the weld under the belt-line (mid-section of van)…

This is a shot a bit closer to the front cowl area...

This pic you can get a better visualization of the full size windshield dropped into the body & laid back…

This is a pic of one of the taillight bezels for the yet to be constructed rolled pan…

Here is a photo that has some definitions of the windshield to give everyone a better understanding of the laid back windshield... My project visually does not look like the full windshield that it is...

Here you can compare Project "Venom" to a stock 1977 Chev Van... Body drop & Suspension drop, has not been done...

A different angle...

This photo shows you the addition of approximately 3" of metal down the centre of the roof...

This gives you an indication of how the full size windshield will have a chopped look...

Yes, Project "Venom" is a short wheelbase van, contrary to how it looks at this point...

And this is where it is going...

Stay tuned...
